Mr and Mrs Smith Analysis

In the first two minutes of this clip with the credits on I could not tell that this film is an action spy film but I could see that it had hints of comedy. After this I can see that it is starting to turn into an action because there is a high angle pan shot which shows a helicopter then cuts to a hotel where in subtitles a man says that someone has been shot. This makes the film seem more like a spy film now because a lot of spy films have subtitles and undercover spies which we can work out Brad Pitt is because he has a gun in his back pocket. The scene after this is mainly romantic and doesn’t show signs of it being a action spy film but a romantic comedy with the mise en scene. The lighting is very dull which suggests romance and there are flashes of red which shows romance and love but however still shows danger to demonstrate that the film is a dangerous action film. Also they are dancing to romantic music but over that sound is the sound of helicopters so even though it is not an action scene there are still elements of action in there.

I will use tips from this opening sequence of Mr and Mrs Smith in my clip, when there is not a dangerous part I will still put danger signs in there using the mise en scene and sound.
